PRAYER

And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

John 14:13-14

TALKING WITH GOD

No matter where you are, what you are doing, or who you are prayer is a natural way to communicate with God.

It is a way of giving thanks, of asking for help, of learning and a way for us to listen to what he wants to say to us.

Where do I start

Sometimes prayer can feel difficult or strange; maybe we don’t know how to begin or what to say.

All of the prayers shown here draw on words that others have used to talk with God. Feel free to use them as you wish; you may want to leave bits out or add bits in as you go.

You might find the peace of our churches helps you to find your voice, sitting or kneeling quietly. But wherever you are just let the hurry and worry of your life fall away from you for a few minutes. You are God’s child. He loves you and cares for you. He is here with you now – and always. Speak to Him slowly and thoughtfully – give yourself time for Him to bring things to mind.

The Prayer that Jesus taught us

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.

A way of ending a time of prayer

Lord, we ask you to receive these the prayers of those who call upon you. Grant that we may know and understand the things we ought to do and may we have the grace and power to do them, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
